At this point in the year students are quite familiar with both fiction and non-fiction texts. However, we are just beginning to more carefully examine the text features that an author might use when writing non-fiction. Today the class 'hunted' for examples. They found: table of contents, photographs, illustrations, glossaries, bold text, captions, maps, and a few others. We will work to understand why an author chooses certain features to convey their information.
