'Egg-citing' Times Ahead!
As I am sure many of you already know in first grade we end the year with an embryology unit. Tomorrow we will 'set' the fertilized eggs in our classroom incubator. I hope you are ready to learn right along with your child as I am sure they will want to share a lot of information with you!

Fun Friday - Really Fun Friday!!!
Wow! If your child doesn’t come home tired after today it won’t be for a lack of trying on our end. We started our day prepping guacamole for the first grade fiesta. Then students traveled with their cookbooks to all four rooms to sample quesadillas, Mexican wedding cookies, salsa, and guacamole. Most were a huge hit! We finished a math assessment, had a bubble celebration for filling our Champ band bucket, and ended the day with a birthday treat before PE. Again, wow. Have a great week! See you April 30th!

Rehearsal!
I was too busy watching last night so I apologize for no performance photos, but I did manage to snap a few at rehearsal! Thank you to all who attended! I think everyone had a great time!

A New Face
Today was our final DARE lesson with Officer Mellen. Today he brought a guest (Marlon) who will be doing outreach work in Colchester. He was great with the kids and we hope to see him visit UMS again!

Our ‘Google Hangout’!
We were so fortunate to be able to participate in a Google Hangout (think Skype but with Google) this morning! We heard researchers from the island of Bemini (in Bahamas) talk about their shark research and preservation. There were classes from Kansas, Tennessee, and Wisconsin on the call as well!

‘Fort’ Day!

Practicing Math Facts
I will be introducing this quick and easy game in class tomorrow, but feel free to have your child try it at home as well. The activity allows a student (I will help them decide which level when we're at school) to choose a level and operation (addition or subtraction) to practice. Finding fun ways to practice math facts is always a good thing!
D.A.R.E.
Today we had our second DARE lesson! We earned about different kinds of signs and how they keep us safe.

Jellybean Math
On Friday we did some ‘egg-stra’ math with jellybeans, graphing, and addition. Needless to say, I think it was a success!
