Fun, new websites!

I thought that some of you may like to see some of the new websites we've begun to use in the classroom.  One site allows children to listen to picture books being read by famous people.  The other site is a math game that uses a 'function machine' to help students analyze how numbers are being adjusted.

Guidance

We are so excited to have Mrs. McCleary back at UMS!  She has recently started a new guidance unit on bullying.  The students are learning the difference between bullying and normal conflicts.  They are also discussing the different people involved in bullying (bully, target, bystanders) and how to help/get help when needed!

Happy New Year!

I hope that everyone enjoyed the holidays! We will be discussing resolutions at school and setting some new goals for learning. Even though it is not a new school year, it is a great time to reflect on learning that has happened so far in first grade and what students still hope to learn.

                                                      

Holiday Celebration

On the Wednesday before vacation students enjoyed a fun and busy holiday party.  The boys and girls rotated through four stations each of which focused on different winter celebrations.  At one area the children played dreidel (a game played during Hanukkah), another station was set up for children to break a pinata (often used during Los Posadas), the third area involved decorating sugar cookies (a Christmas tradition), and the last station was a delicious snack (latkes, fruit salad, cookies).  The children all had a wonderful time!  I hope you enjoy the slide show below that documents the afternoon!
