The Chicks are Coming!!!!

There is a lot of excitement in first grade this week as we begin to prepare for the arrival of our chick eggs!  Our incubator is set up and we are monitoring its' temperature.  The eggs will be placed in the incubator Wednesday morning after Nurse Kelly visits to teach us how to keep ourselves and the eggs healthy.  I am sure that you will be hearing a lot about our visitors as the days go by.

Observatory Trip Rescheduled

We are very fortunate to be able to reschedule our trip to the Saint Michael's College Observatory.  We will be visiting the observatory on Wednesday, May 11th.  Due to the small size of the observatory we have blocked out 15 minutes for each of the first grade classes.  Our class is scheduled from 7:15-7:30 p.m.  For directions or to see a map of the Saint Michael's College campus please check your child's home/school folder.

Solids and Liquids

In first grade we have recently begun to explore solids, liquids, and gases.  Students have primarily been working with solids to this point.  They have explored different properties of solids and discussed why different properties are important for different materials.  

 Some solids are great for building.

Students had to sort pictures of objects into three categories: solids, liquids, or gases.

D.A.R.E.

We have now had two out of our four D.A.R.E. classes with Officer B.  She will be coming in to visit on two more Tuesday mornings.  Students are learning about a variety of safety topics including: 911, drugs/medications, personal safety, and strangers.  There will usually be some written activity that your child will bring home.  Please use this as a way to review the day's lesson at home with your child.

The Bear Went Over the Mountain

Last night our class performed The Bear Went Over the Mountain at Colchester High School!  I was so proud of each and every student.  They had worked very hard to learn songs, hand motions, and even solo speaking parts!  It was an amazing event.  Thank you Ms. Mutz for all of your hard work and dedication to our school's music program.
