Stoplight

Hopefully your child has been showing you his/her 'stoplight' paper each evening. Many students are feeling quite proud of their behavior and school choices!

Revising Our Thinking

Part of our first grade math program includes something called 'open responses'. These are problems that may have more than one solution, but the biggest component is revising our mathematical thinking over a couple of days. Yesterday, students used markers to edit or add to their original answers.

Homework...oops!

I am resending a copy of this week's homework. If your child had already finished it - you are all set. Unfortunately, the copier did not print the original graph dark enough to see. Hope this helps if you were confused!

Last week in Photos

Thank you to everyone who was able to come in for a conference. It was wonderful to be able to share your child's progress. Last week got away from me, but here are some photos to catch you up! Happy Thanksgiving!

Mark Your Calendar

On Wednesday, December 7th students are encouraged to wear their favorite t-shirt to school.  Throughout the year we will have special days (some announced - some unannounced).  I can't wait to see what everyone decides to wear!

Gratitude Buckets

Today, Mrs. McCleary helped our class make 'gratitude buckets'. Each person wrote about four things they were grateful for and then added them to their bucket.

Writing Choices

With assessments behind us we enjoyed 'choice' writing time on Friday. Students could practice sight words with some Thansgiving songs, write a friendly letter, or write what they are thankful for. I think everyone enjoyed having some flexibility during writing time!

Gratitude

This week in guidance Mrs. McCleary taught us the meaning of the word 'gratitude' (fitting with Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving)! Each morning after the pledge an adult in our school has shared one thing they are grateful for. It's been nice to stop and reflect on what things WE are grateful for.

From Ms. Hebert in the Library...

Calling All Tissue Boxes!
The UMS library is in need of MANY empty rectangular tissue boxes to use as shelf blocks.  These will be placed behind smaller books on shelves to prevent them from being pushed back too far for children to easily reach.
Please consider sending in your empty boxes with your students-- we could use as many as 50!  Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

Salute!

Today we learned a new math game called 'salute'. Our class really seemed to like it. The purpose is to work on fact strategies.

Slime!

We earned another class reward today!!! We spent about 15 minutes this afternoon making slime (fun and will connect back to our new science unit- solids and liquids). The faces of students were priceless when touching the slime!
