Haiku Deck: A First Grade Presentation

Please enjoy our classes' chick presentation.  We used a great resource called, HaikuDeck to combine text with neat images.  Our Chick Presentation

Fun with the Chicks!

It doesn't get much cuter than these adorable first grade faces watching cute, fluffy, yellow chicks!

Writing

I just wanted everyone to know that the writing pieces you will find in your child's green home/school folder today are from kindergarten.  Each child completed 3 pieces that were then handed to me last spring.  One of those pieces has become a permanent piece in your son or daughter's Colchester writing portfolio.  The other two are for you to enjoy!

Early Birds!!!

As I am sure many of you have already heard (good news travels fast) we had eight chicks hatch from their shells today!  Today was only the 20th day of incubation so there is a possibility that more will hatch tomorrow, but no matter what a hatch of 50% or more is considered a successful hatch!  Needless to say it was a busy, exciting, and fun day in first grade!  Some of our new fluffy friends have even been given names.  Remember, we will be hosting a 'chick celebration' this Friday from 2:15-3:00 p.m.  Hope to see many of you there!

Candling Chick Eggs - Day 6

Today in first grade we candled half of our eggs.  This process allows students to see if the eggs are 'winners', 'quitters', or 'yolkers'.  These terms are friendly ways of saying that the embryo is either healthy and growing, was fertilized and stopped growing, or was never fertilized.  The attached video show very clearly what this process is like!
