Student Photos

As more permission slips come in I will post more student photos, but here are just a couple to give you a 'snapshot' of first grade.

 

 

Vowel Bat

Although today was only day number one of first grade we jumped right in to some academic content. Each day (for the first few weeks of school) we will have two student 'mystery' names.  Using today's names we had conversations about words versus letters and consonants versus vowels.  The following video tends to be a student favorite each year for practicing short vowel sounds.  I cannot take credit for creation of the video...I found it on YouTube. :)

Story Time!

Today students were a captive audience for both of the books I chose to read.  The first book was a bit more serious than the first, but I think boys and girls enjoyed both!

                                      

Today was an incredibly fun and busy day in room 6.  By the end of the day I think that we were all a bit tired, but students still had positive things to say about first grade.  Check this link to see what our class thought about day number one.  I couldn't be more proud of everyone's efforts!  Keep up the good work first graders!

Our Room!

Exciting news from room 6!  The boxes are unpacked, supplies are put away, and things are beginning to look bright and cheery! I still have more work to do, but the most important additions will arrive on August 31st - YOU!

Welcome!

Welcome to Mrs. Hughes' first grade room! I cannot wait to see you all very soon! I have begun planning for our very first few days together. Although I will be sad to see summer go I am also looking forward to a great year.
