Taiko Drumming

I hope to see you all at our student performance tonight!  The boys and girls will be showcasing what they've learned over the last week of work with Paton Sensei.  The performance will begin at 6:30 in the Colchester High School gym, but students may meet their teacher at 6:15 to get ready!

Spelling 'Blends'

This week during SWR we are focusing on 'l' blends.  Here I am preparing the secret recipe for 'sl' 'bl' 'cl' 'gl' and 'fl' blends.  The boys and girls were only slightly disappointed to learn that we were cooking up words rather than a snack.

Special Guest Reader

We are fortunate to have a principal who stops by our room often, but it is an added bonus when he stays to read a book!  This visit was in honor of all of the great reading students did over the February vacation.  Way to go UMS Champs!

Magic 'e' Practice

Students have been working hard to distinguish between long and short vowel sounds.  Although there are many vowel teams and a variety of spelling rules we've been focusing on the power of Magic 'e'.  Students made Magic 'e' wands and then had to use picture clues to find short vowel words around the room.  When they did they could use their wand to change the short vowel word to a word with a long vowel sound instead.  It's amazing what a little glitter can do for spelling!

St. Patrick's Day Fun!

Last Friday proved to be a fun (yet mischievous) day in our room.  We were visited not once, but twice by a leprechaun named Willie B. Goode.  The first time he left us a note, his hat (although we think it was a fake hat because it was made of plastic), a trail of glitter, and even green toilet water (gross!).  His second visit happened while we were in Mrs. Sorenson's classroom watching a read aloud story on the smartboard.  We came back to the room to find golden coins hidden in silly places.  Throughout all of this craziness we still managed to make Leprechaun Pudding and even edit a letter from one leprechaun to another.  Needless to say it was a fun day! :)

Thank You!

I just wanted to say 'thank you' to all of you who were able to come in for a Parent/Teacher conference!  It is always a pleasure to be able to showcase your child's progress and have time to visit with each of you.  Remember, we will not have a formal conference again this year, but as always if something comes up please do not hesitate to contact me!
