Bye Bye Birdies

I believe it is safe to say that our embryology unit was a success! I am always amazed at what knowledge students take away from this wonderful experience!

Author Visit

Today we were fortunate enough to have Tracey Campbell Pearson visit our school and share with us what life as an author and illustrator is like.

Class Created Haiku Deck

As a part of our 'Chick Celebration' being held tomorrow (Friday, May 27th from 2:15-3:00) students will share the slide they created for our Haiku Deck. Please enjoy this!

Chicks!!!

Chick Hatch

Wow!  What a morning we've been having in room 6.  We arrived to find 5 chicks already hatched and in the incubator.  Since then we've had 4 more hatch!  We were fortunate enough to be able to capture one hatch on video.  I'm sure you won't have to ask your child what happened at school today, but be ready for lots of smiles and excitement!

This is a live 'chick cam' coming to you from Ms. White's classroom. It is a bit of work to get set up so although we cannot see our own chicks hopefully you and your child will enjoy watching some of the excitement from the room next door. The real action will probably start sometime on Monday! We are all so excited!!!

Better late than Never

We are bucket fillers!!!

Number Scroll Mania

The length of some first graders number scrolls is quite impressive. We have some highly motivated mathematicians.

'Book Round-Up'

It's hard to believe, but the end of the year is drawing close.  At this point I would like to begin collecting book bags and books from students.  I'll start by asking what they have in their backpacks (I'm sure for some it's a lot!) and then may begin sending notes home with particular students if we can't find things at school.  Please help your child locate missing items when appropriate.  Thank you!

Summer Birthdays

Image result for birthday cake

If your child has a summer birthday please know that we will celebrate them here at school on one of our last few days together.  I will bring a treat in for the entire class to share and students who have a summertime birthday will get a bracelet, crown, and pencil just like all of their friends who celebrated during the school year.  Thank you!

Telling Time

I wish that I could take credit for this catchy tune, but I can't.  However, you can find the original video on 'Teacher Tipster'.  I think our take on the song went pretty well.  Telling time continues to be a challenge for many students so today we were reviewing time to the hour and half hour.

Reading Program

Next week (May 16th-20th) will be our final week for reading program and math homework.  It is hard to believe that there is less than a month left of school.  Where does time go?!  Thank you to all of our volunteers!  You certainly helped this group of first graders grow.

School wide Meeting

Today we hosted school wide meeting along with Ms. White's class. We were responsible for teaching two activities to the school. Ask your child about 'Mrs. Gooney bird' and 'milkshake'. They all did a great job!

Practice, Practice, Practice

As a part of our morning meeting we practiced egg turning this morning!

Official Egg Turners

Today is Day #1 on our egg calendars which means some students were selected to be 'egg turners'. This is an important job. Ask your child what it means to be an egg turner. We will do this job right up until Day #19.

This is Our Goal!

I used this video from youtube in class this morning as a visual representation of what our 'end goal' is for this science unit.  The class loved it!

The Eggs Have Arrived!!!

This morning our room was buzzing with excitement! The eggs have arrived! You may be surprised at how much information your child has already learned in just one day. Try asking him/her some of these questions.
1. How long does it take to hatch a chick?
2. What is the difference between grocery store eggs and our eggs?
3. On what day does the embryo's heart begin to beat?
Check back often for lots of photos and information!
