St. Lucia Day

St. Lucia day is celebrated on December 13th in Sweden, Norway, and Italy. It is a celebration of light on one of the darkest days of the year. We made crowns like children would wear on St. Lucia day.

Reindeer Fun!

Try a Tiles

Try a Tiles are a wonderful math tool that encourage students to think flexibly about math facts. I was very impressed with the level of persistence I saw today!

Digraph Fun

Today students practiced recognizing digraph sounds in words (I.e. Sh, th, ph, ch, and wh). They also practiced good sportsmanship and taking turns!

Measurement Trees

Boys and girls enjoyed measurement this week when they got to cut strips of paper in inch long segments for a Christmas tree.

No Homework

As I have heard many students talking about lots of fun evening events recently I decided to NOT give homework this week. Hopefully this makes things at home a little less stressful this time of year!

Doubles Facts

During math today partners played 'roll a double'. This is a game to practice doubles facts (I.e. 2+2). By the end of first grade students should automatically be able to recall facts to 10.

The Wiz of Is

Students enjoyed making a wizard hat today so that they could turn into the 'wiz of is'. Any way that we can make spelling fun is a win in my book!
