Grinch Day!

Yesterday was a big hit in first grade. We read Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas by the fire, played grinchy games at math, made green art, and had an overall amazing time!!

A Special Performance

Today Mr. Kellogg (a teacher from Mrs. Kelly’s class) brought in his cello to make a real-world connection to our unit on sound. It was quite impressive!!

Loud versus Soft

Today’s science lesson involved figuring out how to make both loud and soft sounds. We explored the property of volume.

Hot Cocoa Party!

Today we celebrated filling our class Champband Bucket by having a hot cocoa party! 

Duck! Rabbit!

Today we worked on stating opinions with a reason to support our thought. To make this more interesting we read the story Duck! Rabbit! and then had to decide if the character in the book was a duck or rabbit. Students were very into the art side of this work!

Guidance

Yesterday students had the opportunity to practice using different problem solving strategies during guidance. They loved the puppets!

Measurement Trees

We have been studying non standard units of measurement. Today we practiced measuring varying lengths by creating measurement trees using snap cubes.

Science Experiments

Today we explored what sounds are easiest to identify by playing a game with a partner. We also made pingpong balls move by using only the vibration from a tuning fork. Everyone had a lot of fun!

Back At It!

We have jumped right back in to learning mode after the Thanksgiving holiday! Students are working hard in many areas.

We have just begun our unit on measurement. Ask your child if they can tell you the ‘rules’ to follow to be accurate.



The most exciting thing is our new sound and light science unit. Today we learned about vibration and sound receivers (our ears).
