Word Sorts

Amazing Artists
We have some incredible artists in room 6! Last week we drew and colored sugar skulls. Later in the year we will be studying mapping and Mexico and this was a fun connection.
Puppets In Education
Today we had the opportunity to watch a presentation by Puppets In Education. The show focused on worry and anxiety and how to deal with the feelings that worry can bring. Thank you Mrs. McCleary for organizing this for us!

A week in Photos
This week our Thursday/Friday learners took their first math unit assessment.
We also wrapped up fire safety and community helpers with a fire dog headband.
Room 6 has some amazing artists!
It’s beginning to look a lot like autumn.
Both learning groups are off to a great start with writing workshop!
A new classroom layout in preparation for having all of us together soon.

New Plexiglass!
I am so excited that our new plexiglass has arrived! Students seem to think it is ‘cool’.

Playing Catch Up Again!
It is hard to believe that we are already into October! Students have been working so hard and I think we’ve managed to squeeze in a bit of fun too!
Practicing tally marks for collecting data
Using number models to represent a number story
We finally practiced our first Scholastic News
Hard at work creating a self-portrait based on the work of Todd Parr
Finished project
This year we are representing full classroom champ band buckets by adding masks to the students in our mural
When all faces have a mask we will have a school-wide celebration

Last Week in Photos
We began to work in our handwriting
Outside mask breaks feel wonderful!
We’re finding things to do since we can’t use the playground...yet.
First graders are quickly learning the ins and outs of SeeSaw.
Mask down just for a smile - he wanted to show his work.
Our self-portraits this year are modeled after Todd Parr’s artwork in his children’s books.
We practiced writing ‘red’ words on our boards and then got to draw a Crazy Critter.
Math games are always more fun with a friend.

First Day - Round 2
Again, I am amazed by our class! Truly, this is a special group of kids I can already tell. They were so so patient with me and each other and all of our new rules and routines.
Coloring first day crowns

Working so hard to figure out different features of SeeSaw

This divider makes me laugh. I keep telling kids they look like they’re in a TV set.

First Day (#1)
Today was amazing! Systems worked, kids were prepared, and I think we were able to squeeze some fun in! I tried to take some pictures today without showing student faces. Once the blog release forms are back I’ll post their awesome smiling (Even under a mask) faces!
We started our new journals.

We began to explore with SeeSaw.

We enjoyed some Jitter Juice and then graphed the results.

We had our first mystery name.

Everyone quickly learned where on the rug they should sit.

Welcome to Room 6!
Welcome to Mrs. Hughes' class! I am so excited that we are going to be together this year! It seems strange that I didn't get to meet you all in the spring so here is a little information about me so you can begin to get to know me!
I spent a lot of time outside this summer (although you can tell from my jacket this was in the spring).
(Did you ever wonder what your teacher looked like teaching last spring? Here is a picture my husband took during a morning meeting. That is my daughter outside playing with her brothers.
This summer my gardens got a lot of attention! We loved making things around our house as pretty as possible.
This is me getting ready for first grade (I'm on the right). My sister is the other person in the photo.
