You have probably heard, but in case you haven't...our chick eggs arrive this coming Tuesday! This is a video that we will refer to a lot over the next 3 three weeks. Feel free to watch and learn. I have done this unit many times and am still in awe on 'hatch' day!

Mental Imagery
We have been working very hard in reading all year long! I think students enjoyed adding some art to our reading time yesterday. We used a funny poem about a giant to practice visualizing. This is an important skill for all readers.

Educreations to Create
Today, I had a small group of students begin to use an app called 'educreations' to show what they know about a particular non-fiction feature. One of the main goals of technology at this point is to have students create (i.e. documents, evidence, etc...) and not just use games (although these have value as well).
Skype!
Yesterday we Skyped with a shark expert based in Tampa, FL! After some technical difficulties were solved we had a great time! So much fun! Be sure to ask your first grader what you can do to help save sharks!

Beat the Principal

Yesterday students were quite excited to play a word study game against Mr. Antonicci! They were even more excited to win (and he was competitive...they had to work hard!)
Compare and Contrast

This week we have been using our cultural study of Mexico to help teach reading skills. We focused on comparing and contrasting two texts on the same topic.

Shark Books
Our shark books are almost complete! I think you will be quite impressed by your child's effort and writing on this project.

Math Games
Today we learned the game 'tric trac'. The goal is to practice math facts and be able to determine a variety of possible combinations. Students seemed to enjoy the strategy behind trying to win.

School Colors Day
This Wednesday (April 6th) we will celebrate school colors day! If your child owns any blue and/or green clothing please encourage them to wear it.

Mexican Art
We have started our cultural study of Mexico and kids are loving it! We've been trying to use some Spanish at morning meeting. We've looked at maps to see where Mexico is and yesterday we began some beautiful artwork!
