I love when I see students spontaneously use the spelling skills we’ve been learning about. Below, one student used ‘ed’ as an ending an another remembered the ‘ea’ vowel team. Way to go!

Reading Groups

One skill that many of us are working on during reading is looking for chunks in words. Sometimes we focus on the middle of the word and other times we look at the endings.

Writing Sentences

In first grade we are working hard on writing sentences with an uppercase letter at the beginning and appropriate punctuation at the end.

Word Study Games

We have been trying to spice up our word study time with some fun games this week. Yesterday we played ‘battleship’ and today it was ‘basketball’. Ask your child which he/she enjoyed more.

Friday Math Facts

We are going to be working very hard on mastering our addition and subtraction facts to 10. Today we talked again about ‘fact families’ and then students chose how they wanted to practice. It was a great day in room 6!
